In the fourth quarter of 2024, the sandbox gaming category in South Africa saw significant trends across the top five apps on a unified platform, based on data from Sensor Tower.

Roblox from Roblox Corporation demonstrated impressive growth in weekly revenue, which peaked at approximately $161.9K in late December. Weekly downloads showed an upward trajectory, reaching around 38.5K by the end of the quarter. The app also experienced a rise in weekly active users, peaking at roughly 939K.

Minecraft: Dream it, Build it! by Mojang saw a gradual increase in revenue, culminating in about $13.2K in the week leading up to Christmas. While downloads remained relatively stable, the number of active users grew, reaching 15.9K in early December.

Blockman GO from GVERSE INTERNATIONAL PTE. LTD. exhibited a notable uptick in weekly downloads, climbing to over 2.3K by the end of December. Revenue saw a spike mid-December, hitting $558, while active users consistently increased, reaching approximately 6.9K.

Melon: Sandbox by Payge Ltd experienced steady growth, with downloads peaking at 2.9K in December. Revenue also increased, with a notable rise to $441 at the end of the quarter. Active users reached a high of about 25.6K.

Terraria from 505 Games (US), Inc. maintained a steady presence, with weekly revenue peaking at $256 at the start of the quarter. Although downloads remained modest, active users showed a slight increase toward the end of the year.
